The short version
The SX 125 has been Aprilia's answer to the sixteen-year-old question for years: a 15 hp supermoto with proper 240 mm of front travel, honest geometry and the lowest price of any serious bike in the class. The 2025 refresh sharpened the styling and the dash, and left the recipe alone. It is basic in exactly the places a first bike can afford to be.

What the SX 125 gets right
Strip the class to its essentials and the SX 125 covers them for less money than anyone else: a liquid-cooled four-valve single revving to its full legal 15 hp, a 41 mm upside-down fork with 240 mm of travel, 17 inch supermoto wheels and a 136 kg wet weight the KTM cannot answer. The bones are correct, and bones are what a first supermoto is for.
The 2025 update gave it sharper bodywork and a better display without touching the price positioning, which stays more than a thousand euro under the KTM 125 SMC R. For a licence class where the rider outgrows the bike in two years, that gap buys the first set of proper riding gear with change left over. That is not a small argument; for most A1 buyers it is the argument.
Where the budget shows
The savings live in the details. ABS covers the front wheel only, the dash tells you the time rather than talking to your phone, and the 300 mm disc with its two-piston caliper is adequate where the KTM's radial four-piston setup is genuinely good. None of this is dangerous or disqualifying; all of it is visible the moment the three bikes park side by side.
The 880 mm seat is the tallest of the A1 supermotos, a filter for shorter teenagers that the 152 kg KTM partially answers with its 860 mm perch. And the schedule asks for a service every 6,000 km against the KTM's 10,000, which over a typical two-year A1 ownership adds a workshop visit or two to the real cost of that low sticker. The SX still wins the total-money argument; it just wins it by less than the price tags suggest.
