What we collect ourselves

Almost nothing. The Moto Ref has no user accounts, no comment system and no newsletter yet. Every page is a static document. Our hosting provider records standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested) to operate the service; we do not use them to identify you. Tools like the comparison picker, the bike builder and the mileage calculator run entirely in your browser and send us nothing.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand which pages get read and how visitors find them. It sets cookies and collects usage data such as pages visited, approximate location derived from your IP address, and device type. We see aggregate reports, not individuals. Google describes its handling of this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and you can block Google Analytics entirely with the official opt-out browser add-on. If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Google tags on this site run in consent mode: they set no analytics or advertising cookies unless you consent, and until then operate only with cookieless, aggregated signals.

Advertising

We show display advertising to fund the site, served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.

You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and opt out of many other vendors' cookies at aboutads.info/choices or, in the EU, youronlinechoices.eu. Google describes its advertising practices at policies.google.com/technologies/ads. Affiliate links

Some links on parts pages are affiliate links, always labelled as such. If you buy through them, the retailer may set cookies to attribute the sale and we earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We receive aggregate sales data only, never your personal details.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data. Since we hold essentially none ourselves, most requests will concern our advertising partners, but we will help route any request you send us. Contact us any time via the contact page.

Changes

If our practices change, for example if we add a newsletter or user accounts, this page changes first and the date above moves.
