The short version

The Himalayan 450 replaced an agricultural icon with a genuinely modern bike: liquid cooled Sherpa engine, a round TFT with Google Maps navigation and real touring range from its 17 litre tank. It is slower and heavier than the KTM, and costs 2,000 EUR less.

Where it wins

  • 17 litre tank and frugal single give nearly 500 km of range
  • Three year warranty beats every rival here
  • Adjustable seat height and friendly manners for new riders

Where it loses

  • 196 kg wet is a lot for 40 hp offroad
  • No traction control and basic suspension
