The short version
The 701 Supermoto shares its LC4 engine, WP suspension and trellis frame with the KTM 690 SMC R. The differences are bodywork, a rear tank section that centralises fuel mass and a hundred euros of price. Choose on looks; the spec sheet will not separate them.
Where it wins
- Same benchmark LC4 engine and fully adjustable WP suspension as the KTM
- Fuel carried under the seat for better mass centralisation
- Slightly cheaper than the equivalent KTM most years
Where it loses
- No ride modes where the KTM has them
- Same dated LCD dash and token pillion provision as the 690

Same recipe, different plates
The 701 Supermoto is the KTM 690 SMC R wearing white, and nobody involved pretends otherwise: same big LC4 single, same fully adjustable WP suspension, same trellis frame. Husqvarna's contributions are the bodywork, a fuel cell under the seat and a list price 100 EUR kinder.
Back-to-back testers report the twins differ more in temperament than hardware: the Husqvarna's throttle mapping and delivery feel a shade smoother and more even, where the KTM is tuned a notch sharper. Same band, different mix of the same song.
Where it differs from the 690 SMC R
Carrying fuel in the rear centralises mass, and riders who spend real time on both swear the Husqvarna feels calmer and more planted for it, especially on longer stints. I will not spoil their fun by pointing out how small the measurable difference must be; the smoother mapping probably deserves half the credit.
The meaningful equipment gap is ride modes, which the KTM ships and the Husqvarna does not. The dated LCD dash and the token pillion pad carry over faithfully, as tradition demands.
The verdict between the twins
If you want the sharper, angrier tune and ride modes for the same money, buy the KTM. If you prefer the smoother delivery, the cleaner design and fuel where a supermoto ought to carry it, the Husqvarna is not a compromise, it is a preference.
Both are the best big supermoto hardware ever put on general sale, and the press has spent years failing to separate them for a reason. There are no wrong answers here, only different paint.

Frequently asked
- Is the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto A2 licence legal?
- Not as delivered: 74 hp is 54.4 kW against the 35 kW A2 limit. Because it stays under 70 kW, dealers can supply it restricted to 35 kW for A2 licence holders, and the full power returns with a dealer derestriction once you upgrade.
- How fast is the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto?
- Our power-to-weight model estimates 0 to 100 km/h in about 3.2 seconds, from 74 hp moving 157 kg wet. That is an estimate for comparison, not a measured time, and it is labelled that way everywhere on this site.
- What is the fuel range of the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto?
- About 317 km on paper: a 13 litre tank against a claimed 4.1 L/100 km. Ride it with enthusiasm and the maths gets worse, never better.
- How tall is the seat on the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto?
- The Husqvarna 701 Supermoto seat sits at 890 mm, which is on the tall side, so shorter riders should sit on one before signing anything. At 157 kg wet, weight does the rest of the talking at a standstill.
- How much does the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto cost?
- €12,349 list price in the EU market this site scores. It earns 11.8 of 20 value points on our formula, which weighs price against equipment and running costs.
