The short version

The Tuono 457 is Aprilia's RS 457 stripped to a naked: the same aluminium frame and 47.6 hp twin, wide bars instead of clip-ons and a 6,599 EUR price. It brings the only aluminium chassis in the A2 naked class and an engine that sits exactly on the licence limit.

Where it wins

  • Aluminium twin-spar frame is unique among A2 nakeds
  • 47.6 hp twin sits right on the A2 ceiling and revs out sweetly
  • Ride modes, traction control and TFT standard at 6,599 EUR

Where it loses

  • Preload-only suspension against the KTM's adjustable WP units
  • Dealer network still thinner than the Japanese and Austrian rivals

The full review

What the wide bars change

Take the sharpest-steering A2 sports bike, remove the fairing and fit proper handlebars: reviewers found the Tuono 457 friendlier than the RS in every everyday situation while keeping the same surgical front end. The upright position turns the aluminium chassis from a track tool into a daily weapon, and the press consensus rates it the most engaging A2 naked to hustle.

The 457 cc twin is unchanged: 47.6 hp at 9,400 rpm, exactly the 35 kW limit, with 43.5 Nm arriving at 6,700. Where the KTM single punches out of corners, the Aprilia keeps pulling to the redline, and testers keep describing the engine as the sweetest in the class.

Equipment and the class context

Ride modes, traction control and a TFT with connectivity are standard, and the 800 mm seat welcomes shorter riders that the 820 mm Austrians turn away. At 6,599 EUR it slots 300 EUR above the 390 Duke and undercuts its own RS sibling by 450 EUR.

The suspension is the honest saving, preload adjustment only at both ends, and pressing hard exposes it before anything else. The 175 kg wet weight also gives away 10 kg to the KTM, though the chassis hides most of it.

Tuono 457 or 390 Duke

The KTM answers with adjustable WP suspension, a torquier single and the bigger dealer network; the Aprilia answers with the frame, the revvier twin and a look that does not shout learner bike. On pure engagement the press leans Aprilia; on ownership pragmatism the KTM keeps its crown.

Both are correct answers, which is new for this class. Check where your nearest Aprilia dealer actually is before the deposit, then buy whichever argument convinces you; my scorecard has them close enough that the test ride decides.
