The friendly one in an angry class
The MT-03 sits out the electronics arms race entirely: no traction control, no ride modes, no TFT, just a small twin, a 780 mm seat and Yamaha build quality. In a class where rivals compete on spec sheet lines, Yamaha competes on the absence of surprises.
The reviews describe its handling with the same image every time: it turns as effortlessly as a 125 without ever feeling skittish, and nothing about it bites, snaps or punishes a clumsy input. Newer riders should read that as a promise.
Engine and ergonomics
The twin makes its power at lofty revs, which describes how it wants to be ridden: spun hard and kept there. Reviewers find it tractable and easy in town but note that below 8,000 rpm the KTM 390 Duke's single out-pulls it everywhere, and the Yamaha asks for one more downshift than feels entirely fair.
The one ergonomic complaint in road tests comes from taller riders, who find the high pegs and narrow bar cramped on longer rides. For the smaller riders the low seat attracts, the same layout reads as snug rather than tight.
Why beginners keep buying it
